Dr. Islam was born and raised in Bangladesh, where he graduated from Dhaka Medical College with honors. In 1977, he emigrated to the US and first completed an internship through Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Islam then finished his residency in internal medicine at Brooklyn-Cumberland Medical Center at Downstate University of New York, where he served as the chief resident. He also completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the same hospital.
Dr. Islam moved to Central Florida in 1987 and established his own practice. He proceeded to introduce the latest procedures in gastroenterology to area hospitals, including Osceola Regional Medical Center and St. Cloud Regional Medical Center. Before long, he became widely recognized for his excellence and was dubbed “The Father of the ERCP.”
Dr. Islam founded this practice with the aim of building a family of gastroenterologists to serve the families of Osceola Country and beyond. Modeled on this principle, the practice is now the oldest and most established in Osceola County. Dr. Islam’s big heart and curing smile have helped flood the office with grateful patients. A philanthropist outside the office, Dr. Islam also spends a generous portion of his income supporting education.
