ERCP is a procedure that enables your physician to examine the pancreatic and bile ducts.
An “endoscopy” is a technique used to look inside a part of the body. “Upper GI” refers to to the top portion of the gastrointestinal tract, specifically the digestive system which includes the esophagus, swallowing tube leading to the stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine.
The colon, commonly known as the large intestine, is the last portion of your digestive or gastrointestinal tract. It is a hollow tube about five feet long that absorbs water and minerals from digested food.
Flexible sigmoidoscopy allows your doctor to examine a portion of the colon (your large intestine) and the rectum by inserting a flexible, thick tube into the anus and advancing it up through the rectum.
Endoscopic Ultrasonography (EUS) allows your doctor to examine the walls and lining of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. The upper tract consists of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum; the lower tract includes your colon and rectum.
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is a procedure that involves a flexible feeding tube being placed through the abdominal wall into the stomach.
Capsule endoscopy allows your doctor to examine the lining of the middle section of the gastrointestinal tract. This region consists of the small intestine, specifically the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
Esophageal manometryis a test that shows whether your esophagus is working properly. The esophagus is a long, muscular tube that connects your throat to your stomach.
